Jesus Or Barabbas

“The line of distinction between professed Christians and the ungodly is now hardly distinguishable. Church members love what the world loves and are ready to join with them, and Satan determines to unite them in one body and thus strengthen his cause by sweeping all into the ranks of spiritualism. Papists, who boast of miracles as a certain sign of the true church, will be readily deceived by this wonder-working power; and Protestants, having cast away the shield of truth, will also be deluded. Papists, Protestants, and worldlings will alike accept the form of godliness without the power, and they will see in this union a grand movement for the conversion of the world and the ushering in of the long-expected millennium” (GC 588.3).

1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Mark 14:55 And the chief priests and all the council [apostate protestantism] sought for witness [by apostate protestants, Romans, and worldlings] against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

Mark 14:56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

Mark 14:57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

Mark 14:58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

Mark 14:59 But neither so did their witness agree together [Protestants, Papists, and Worldlings couldn’t agree].

Mark 14:60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

Mark 14:61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

Mark 14:62 And Jesus said, I am

[“As He spoke, His countenance lighted up as if a sunbeam were shining upon it.” DA 726.1]

John 19:7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

Same reason they had so much trouble in John 5:18, “Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.”

Ezekiel 20:12 Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.

Ezekiel 20:20 And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.

Mark 14:63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

[“Conviction, mingled with passion, caused him to do this. He was furious with himself for believing Christ’s words, and instead of rending his heart under a deep sense of truth, and confessing that Jesus was the Messiah, he rent his priestly robes in determined resistance. 12MR 401.1

(This reminds me of this sentence: “They will rise up against it, and this is what will cause a shaking among God’s people.” EW 270.2)

By this act he placed himself under the penalty of death. Under no circumstances were the priests to remove their turbans or rend their robes. He who disregarded this law was to die. Nothing but perfection, in dress and attitude, in word and spirit, could be acceptable to God. He is holy, and His glory and perfection must be represented by the earthly service. Nothing but perfection could properly represent the sacredness of the heavenly service. Finite man might rend his own heart by showing a contrite and humble spirit. This God would discern. But no rent must be made in the priestly robes, for this would mar the representation of heavenly things.” 12MR 401.2

Is this an equivalent to Moses striking the rock twice?]

Mark 14:64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

Mark 14:65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

Mark 15:5 But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate [Roman authority] marvelled.

Mark 15:6 Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.

Mark 15:7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

[Insurrection: a violent uprising against an authority or government; Apple Dictionary.

Only time Barabbas is used in John: John 18:40 …Barabbas was a robber.]

Mark 15:11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.

Mark 15:15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

Matthew 27:15 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.

Matthew 27:16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

Matthew 27:17 Therefore when they [chief priests and elders, verse 12] were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?

Matthew 27:18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

Matthew 27:19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

[Was the spirit of prophecy given?]

Matthew 27:20 But the chief priests and elders [apostate protestants] persuaded the multitude [worldlings] that they should ask [Roman power] Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

Matthew 27:21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.

Matthew 27:22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.

[“Pilate was not a just or a conscientious judge; but weak though he was in moral power, he refused to grant this request. He would not condemn Jesus until a charge had been brought against Him.” DA 725.3]

Matthew 27:23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

Matthew 27:24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

[“His honors were stripped from him; he was cast down from his high office; and, stung by remorse and wounded pride, he committed suicide not long after the crucifixion. 5Red 66.1]

Matthew 27:25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

[“the ignorant mob…” COL 293.3; “Caiaphas answered defiantly… awful words were taken up by the priests and rulers, and echoed by the crowd in an inhuman roar of voices. The whole multitude answered…” DA 738.4]

Matthew 27:26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

Luke 23:18 And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:

“Some of the most foolish, ridiculous ideas have been presented by ministers who were seeking for something new and startling. There have been advocated some theories the truth concerning which can never be learned until the day of judgment. These evil seeds spring up and bear fruit, and a harvest of evil is the result. Ms154-1903.23

In this very way, insidiously, but surely, rank scientific spiritualism is springing up in the midst of us. Ms154-1903.24

“We are living in times of peril. God wants His servants, His watchmen, to keep their eyes open; He wants them to have more than common sense; they are in need of heavenly wisdom. These false theories coming in are originated by Satan. In the name of the Lord God of Israel, I tell you, my brethren, we want, stationed on the walls of Zion, watchmen that can give the trumpet a certain sound.” Ms154-1903.25
