Pastor Daniel Mesa addresses the idea of faith in the book of Hebrews, and it seems that faith is a very broad term.

Notes:

The application of faith is different to everyone. Faith is a broad term.

We all have faith: setting and alarm, turning on the water, driving, sitting, calling, lights on…

Faith:

Romans 10.17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Revelation 14.12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

James 2.21-22 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

  • “The human suppliant lays hold upon the power of Infinite Love.” GW 259.2
  • “Through faith we receive the grace of God; but faith is not our Saviour. It earns nothing. It is the hand by which we lay hold upon Christ, and appropriate His merits, the remedy for sin.” DA 175.4
  • “It is the means, not the end.” 6BC 1073.9
  • “It is simply taking God at his word; it is believing that God will do just as he has promised.” ST September 9, 1889, par. 2

Considering the chapters of Hebrews in regards to comparisons:

  1. Son of God with angels
  2. Christ with man
  3. Christ with Moses and Israel
  4. Christ with the rest that Israel should have gotten in Canaan
    1. Christ with the High Priest
  5. His life and calling and our life and calling
  6. Church experience compared to the hope that was set before them
  7. Ministry of Aaron compared to that of Melchizedek
    1. Levites with Christ
    2. Life of the priests compared to Christ’s life
  8. Heavenly sanctuary compared to the earthly
  9. Earthly sacrifice compared to the heavenly
  10. 10. Shadows and sacrifices compared to the reality
